Faculty of Computer Technologies and Controlling Systems is widely known in Russia and abroad as  training highly qualified specialists in the field of modern fast-growing knowledge areas, varying from the development and operation of conventional corporate computer networks to a sophisticated large scale general-purpose computer aerospace systems, robotic systems and other high technologies of the XXI century.

Welcome to the Faculty of Computer Technologies and Control Systems of the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (NRU ITMO).

The Faculty is one of the largest research centers at our scientific and higher school institution.

Education

The Faculty makes focus on training specialists in the field of computer technology and software, automation and remote control, power and electrical engineering, information security, robotics. Graduates of the Faculty successfully apply their skill participating in the development, research, production and operation of modern equipment and systems for various applications.

Academic activities

The two lowest tiers of training, a bachelor degree (4 years), and a master degree (6 years) are available  at NRU ITMO.

Two advanced tiers of scientific degrees:

Ph. D. (3 more years) and Doctor of Sciences (4 more years) are available as well


The training is progressing at the following departments of the faculty:

· Machine design onboard electronics and computer devices (MDECS)

· Optoelectronic systems and complexes (OESC)

· Design and security of computer systems (DSCS)

· Control Systems and Informatics (CSI)

· Visualization technology (VT)

· Electrical Engineering and Precision Electro-Mechanical Systems (EEPEMS)


MDECS,OESC, and CS departments are closely cooperating with  industry corporations. Their activity ensures training of the students that meets modern standards, and provides rapid adaptation of young specialists to the environment of research and production teams.

Over the past three years more around  170 persons became winners and participants of more than 30 Russian and International conferences and contests. In particular, at ASRTU Robot Contest&Fair 2011 students of the Faculty of Computer Technologies and Control Systems won theworld championtitle in one of the six nominations.

Student Design Labat our Faculty arranges annual festivals "Mechatronics and Robotics" at the exhibition complex "LenExpo" as a part of the International Forum "Russian Industrialist" and at the St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum.

Science and innovation

Scientific, industrial, and innovation research  results   achieved at  the Faculty  have been succesfully  deployed in Russia and outside the country.

Establishing and development of scientific research center  No.1 "Intelligent Control Systems and Information Processing" (RC1) based on departments of the faculty is aimed to boost fundamental and applied researches, and improve the quality of training in advanced control systems for complex technical objects, control and navigation systems, architecture and design methods specialized computing devices, and distributed systems, the development of specialized computer components and  “Embedded systems”. Principal projects (progressing and completed):

·Embedded system and microprocessor controllers related projects:

-Municipal energy supply service control system “Luch” (Beam);

-Hardware set for ship navigation control   AP3000;

-Device controllers and thermal physics measuring equipment.

Projects related to system on chip design:

·3D platform with machine vision for security systems, industrial facilities and transportation infrastructure.

·Electric servo drives development.

·Electric driven telescopes for trajectory measurements;

·Smart control for robotics, automotive applications, and mechatronic systems.

The Faculty actively participated in the international project NESTER (Networked Embedded and Control Systems Technologies for Europe and Russia, EC FP7), as a technical expert to evaluate the industry trends and options for cooperation between Russia and the EU.
